CCU | Fields

in

In the event of RAIN, we will update this BOX between 2 and 2:30 PM on game days

and you should get an e-mail from your captain reguarding the field status...

However, even if we do get the Go-Ahead from the sponors on a questionable day,

if you arrive at the fields and they are still wet enough that field damage will occur,

DO NOT PLAY... go out for food instead.

Give some food stop suggestions here for West Chester & Kennett... using the Pada forum message board.

CCU Field Locations 2008

KENNETT FIELDS

click here to enlarge in new windowclick here to enlarge in new windowWith the loss of West Goshen this year, some last minute scrambling and a little help from long time CCU players led our field committee volunteers to a beautiful set of fields in Kennett Square PA. Anson B. Nixon Park fields are run by the local YMCA. You can map directions to 475 Walnut Road, Kennett Square, PA 19348 to get the arrow in approximately the correct place... but don't expect to find a house number that matches the field location. Location #1 on this map is the primary parking lot for the fields... however, they are only 170 available parking spots here and we have 200 registered players for CCU. Add us to the soccer players and there will not be room for everyone. (Carpooling is encouraged... even if your team just meets up the street at walmart or biglots and then you all ride-share into the fields for the first few weeks until we get the whole place to ourselves.) If you arrive and the lot is full, please park over in Lot #2 as shown on the map... Lot #2 is the primary lot for the park as a whole. You can follow the foot path over to the fields, maybe playing a few holes of improv disc golf along the way. The actual address of the park is Waterworks Dr, Kennett Square, PA 19348 and this is where you'll find the main parking lot which we'll be using for overflow. Click here for a google map hybrid satellite view. We've numbered the fields 1 through 4, starting in the back. The fields closest to the road will probably be used by YMCA staff for their soccer league, as will the field with the full size soccer nets. A YMCA staffer comes to unlock the gate between 5:30 and 5:50 PM and has to wait until we leave to lock it back up. Two clean Porta-jons complete with purell dispensors are on site. Leave the alcohol & grillables at home. It won't fly here. But this location could become the Edgely of the CCUSL if we are well behaved and respectful of the park, it's fields, and our neighbors.

WEST CHESTER FIELDS

click here to enlarge in new windowclick here to enlarge in new windowWe've have a good relationship with the West Chester School district and after our field committee duked it out again with other sports organizations at the annual field use meeting, we have once again secured two fields at Stetson Middle School. These fields are owned and operated by the public schools, and school children will be present while we are there, as will some school faculty and administrators. NO ALCOHOL is to be brought onto the school grounds. Restroom facilities are located inside the school. See your captain for details. It is essential that we exercise good manners from parking to changing clothes. Do not park in the no-parking areas by the fill tanks or the dumpsters or in staff parking spots. You can map directions to 1060 Wilmington Pike, West Chester, PA 19382-7368 to get the arrow in approximately the correct place... Fields 1 and 2 on this map will be our primary playgrounds at this location. Click here for a google map hybrid satellite view.

Quality fields are an important part of any Ultimate League experience. Maintaining good relationships with the owners of the fields we use is absolutely essential to the future of Chester County Ultimate. It is vital that we not only do our part to maintain the fields and the facilities at which we play, but also that we are respectful of the neighbors and an asset to the communities in which we play and not a drain. With that in mind, please keep the following common sense guidelines in mind this season.

1> Park only in designated areas. Do no park on roadways. Do not block access roads or driveways or block anyone in. If one lot is full, please park in a different lot and walk over to the fields. Do not "make your own" parking spot.

2> Use the restrooms provided. Each of our field providers have also provided public restroom facilities. Please use them when needed. If you don't know where they are, ask your captain. DO NOT take a walk into the woods. We've lost at least one set of fields because of this lack of respect for the neighbors. If you need to change after work, do it in a way and in a location (like the restroom) which will not offend the neighbors or the young children present. Remember that we are the outsiders.

3> Please be respectful of the other groups who use these fields. We are already expecting to see a soccer team or two on Monday at Kennett. Please walk around their games and not through them. Do not encroach on their space. They have the same right to use the fields that we do (if not more since they are YMCA sponsored league teams on YMCA owned fields). Lets be good neighbors... First impressions are lasting impressions, and we expect that a few YMCA & Stetson staff members will be there at some of our games, specifically our first ones and they probably won't be wearing suits and ties, so being on our best behavior will help grease the wheels for future generations of CCU organizers/players. Also, make an effort to leave the Kennett Fields in a timely manner following the games and the on-set of darkness as their staff member can't lock the gate and go home until we all leave. So lets try not to hold him up any longer than we need too.

4> Police the fields on your way out. Make sure you pack out any trash or lost and found items. Lets make it a goal to leave the fields better than found them. We do not want to get a bad reputation that would make it more difficult for us to secure fields in the future from these organization. Don't leave behind someone's shirts or socks or ankle wrap tape, or anything else. Your team brought it to the field... please take it out with you. Also, please return the team signs to Drew or Tracey Cope on the Castaway's field before you leave.

5> DO NOT PLAY if the field is wet. Make the responsible call. If a field is wet, cancel your game. We're going to get a lot of Ultimate in this summer. Do not jeopardize our relationship with the field owners by destroying a wet field, just so you can play one more game.

6> Volunteer your time to help us find fields. If you know of a field complex somewhere within 45 minutes of West Chester, please get an address, a contact name, phone number, website and e-mail address and pass it along to CCUcoordinator at pada dot org. If you'd like to be on the field committee next year, please let us know that as well.

Any issues along these lines will be handled in accordance with the PADA Disciplinary policy. Since we expect all players to compete according to the Spirit of the Game, we trust that this policy will be rarely (hopefully, never) needed. Read more about it here.
