Delaware Spring League
General Information
Ground has thawed enough for some foot-stompin’, whoot-hollerin’, good ol’ fashioned ultimate frisbee. Clear the varmints out of your kleats and get ready to play!
- Where All games will take place at the Alapocas State Park (yes, you will have to pay for parking) which keeps the nicest, most aerated green fields this side of the border.
- When Games will be played every Sunday from 3-5PM, beginning on 4/4 (yes, Easter), and ending on 5/16, with a finals tournament on 5/23 (from 10 to 4). This year we will have a few double-header Sundays, on 4/18, 5/2, and 5/16, and for any rain makeup games. Doubleheader games will begin at 5.
- Other goodies In addition to wonderful games on great fields, you get discs, and a final tournament at the end of the season. All this for the low low registration fee of $20 (plus annual PADA membership).
- Baggage Two folks can bag together, and must clearly state so, in registration. The only baggage allowed is 1) A couple with small children, 2) a new player and an experienced player. Baggage makes team selection very difficult and can skew teams, so please do not abuse the baggage policy.
- Captains Please indicate in registration if you are willing to captain. Captain experience is not necessary. If you would like to captain with somebody, please indicate your co-captain in registration. We strive to have coed co-captains for every team. Captaining is very easy, and this season we will have small gifts for the captains. So, please help!
- New This Season New discs! We have a new design thanks to creative force Matt Jones. Awards! There will be awards for the winning team, as well as spirit awards. Larger league! Every season we have grown significantly. This season, we will shoot for having eight teams. We have the men to support this, but we need women. Men, if you want guaranteed spots for all male players, help find women – otherwise, we will have to cap the number of men.
- Women Recruitment To have eight teams, we need more women. Word of mouth is the best way to recruit, so we need your help. Let all the women you know about this great league! And, to sweeten the deal, we are offering free league fees to all women who are new to the sport. A no risk opportunity to try out league. Of course, they still have to pay the PADA membership fee ($10), but they get all the other goodies that come along with the season (a disc, party, games, fun!). Also, we have postcard/flyers. So if you are the sort who is exposed to women who are GGG, that is willing to try a new sport – grab some postcards! Tell them how much fun ultimate is, and what do they have to lose to try it out?
- Women’s and Beginner Clinics We will be holding two beginner clinics and two women’s clinics prior to league. All are welcome, no matter what your skill level, to attend and help out, and I’m sure we’ll play some ultimate as well. Women’s Clinics: 3/21 at Rockford Park in Wilmington, 1 PM, 3/28 at Lum’s Pond 1 PM. Beginner’s Clinics: 3/21 at Rockford Park in Wilmington, 3PM, 3/28 at Lum’s Pond, 3PM.
