A History of Mikeys---from the former, long-time TD, Brian Boger: Hi my name is Boger! I have been involved with Ultimate for a while. A few decades I think. Over the years, I've been proud to be involved in organizing a lot of Ultimate events, including a few for PADA. With Melissa Ditz, I was a co-director of the PADA Mother's Day Tournament for a few years. Since the mid-90's (?) I have directed Mikey's Spring Thing on behalf of the Manning and Schubert families. Mike Manning was a teammate of mine in the early 1990's. During his time with us, Mike was involved with children's charities. Upon his passing, Chris and Clare Schubert started Mikey's to memoralize Mike, and benefit charity organizations working with children. I'm proud that over the years Mikey's has raised thousands of dollars for a group of children's charities. When age and decrepitness caught up to me in 2005, Peter Knappenberger was kind enough to step-in and organize a really successful Mikey's. For 2006, I was given the opportunity to organize Mikey's one last time. This will be a special Mikey's for me, as it will be my last effort as a "tournament director." I hope you'll all grace me with your presence one more time. -- Brian Boger Amenities -- This is a "hat tournament" in which teams are (somewhat) randomly chosen. We provide you with a shirt so that you might identify your teammates. The shirts come in the sizes they do. Please show up early if you are particular about shirt size. Dinner -- we want you to hang out with us at the clubhouse and enjoy dinner with us. The food is all made by the organizations that the event is benefiting, and they take a lot of pride in serving YOU -- the Ultimate community. Of course carbohydrates, fruit and water will be provided. Our charities -- the Neighborhood First Program (NFP) is an after- school program for at-risk kids in Bristol Township, PA. The organization is special to me, because it was founded by a former Deputy Director of the facility in which I am employed. "JT" Wells left our organization to take a big chance and open the ONLY organization working with at-risk youth in a high crime area of his home community. Having worked for JT directly for 15 years I know that this program is going to be hugely successful. The other organization for which I'm raising money is Shire Alternative School in Warminster, PA. The woman who directs the program is actually lawfully wed to me. Many of you who know me still don't believe that I'm actually married, but I've got tax receipts to prove it. Dawn started this school as an early prevention program for middle school aged children who have significant behavioral problems in public schools. Not surprisingly children who have these problems usually have lots of other problems going on as well. I'm proud that this little start-up program provides a safe, structured and nurturing environment for these kids.
